How to edit permalinks for picture on WordPress
-
hi guys, i need some help with editing permalinks for picture.
You see, I uploaded a picture to my blog
and it did not appear for some reason. Even though page refreshed, it shows x mark.
Maybe its something wrong with wordpress server. So I deleted it, and re-upload the same picture
It works now, but WordPress has added a weird number at the end of the URLPreviously this was the image link [this is what I wanted]
http://ayumilove.wordpress.com/2009/03/30/3d-logic-2-stronghold-of-sage/3d_logic_2_29/Currently it has added number 1 at the end of the link.
http://ayumilove.wordpress.com/2009/03/30/3d-logic-2-stronghold-of-sage/3d_logic_2_291/How to correct the URL so it become like below: [without 1]
http://ayumilove.wordpress.com/2009/03/30/3d-logic-2-stronghold-of-sage/3d_logic_2_29/Currently, the link above leads to a 404 error page.

Essentially, you can’t. When you re-upload a file that has the same file name as one uploaded previously, you get the 1 on the end of it. Always rename the file before uploading it.
-
umm why should I rename it before uploading when the title is already ok?
The first time I uploaded was the correct title, but WordPress server had the picture corrupted.
So I had to remove the picture from wordpress, shouldn’t it also remove the link?
Wordpress should remove the link as well….
Reuploading the picture had allow the picture to appear, but wordpress added a 1 at the end.
So your solution given above does not really help.
Anyone have better suggestions? -
You say “wordpress should…” But the fact is, it doesn’t. WordPress always has difficulty with files with the same name. If you rename the file you will get a new permalink when you upload it. THe solution you’re asking for isn’t possible at WordPress.com when you re-upload.

“Anyone have better suggestions?” Nice joke.

The “difficulty” with file names comes from the fact that there is a MySQL database involved, and when you delete something from a database, it isn’t immediately deleted. It is MARKED for deletion and made unavailable. The actual deletion happens at some scheduled interval when the database goes through a “pack” or compaction.
If you delete a file today, wait 24 hours and then upload a file with the same name, it would most likely upload without wordpress changing the file name.
