How to email subscribers directly without posting big post?

Does anybody know if we can email our subscribers directly without posting a blog post.
If we can, how do we go about doing it?

Just saying … when subscribers subscribe they provide an email address for a single purpose ie. to receive your published posts, and not for any other purpose. In my country, Canada, where we have been spammed to death with all kind of crap that we did not submit and email address to receive, using an email address for any purpose other than what it is submitted for, is illegal.
As there are those who disrespect us and the law and flood us with crap we did not wish to receive, many savvy bloggers use throwaway email addresses for blogging, and reserve their personal email addresses for friend and family use only. That means they cannot be identified personally.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There is no mass mailing feature here at WordPress.com. Your followers can subscribe to receive your posts by email and they can control the frequency of receipt. You cannot subscribe for them or control the frequency of receipt of your posts by them.
You can create a Subscribe page and clearly state on it that you intend to harvest email addresses if that’s what you want to do. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
You can add and customize a contact form with multiple fields, change the email address where you’ll be notified, and mark feedback as spam from your dashboard on that page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/
