How to email the author
-
Hello !
I’d like to know if there is a way to allow readers to privately contact the author. The most obvious method I can think of would be a “Contact me” link to some form (something like: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/contact-form-7-widget/) with capchas (as in http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/really-simple-captcha/).

No captcha here, and plugins aren’t allowed here, but wordpress.COM does have a contact form shortcode.

Make sure and put the code into the HTML tab, and also do not copy and paste it. Type it in. And also, make sure and turn comments off for that page otherwise there will be two text entry boxes, which will confuse people.

The most easy way is to use the contact form short-code:

https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1I see your blog is in French, you can also get support in French language in French forum:

Those are WordPress.ORG Plug-in’s, Plug-in’s are not allowed on WordPress.COM but there is a contact Widget if you want to add a way for people to contact you without needing to have your email on the web – if your blog is on WordPress.COM (as in the blog linked to your name)

Thanks for you quick replies. :)
Well, yes, I would like to put it on my blog. Actually, I’m still considering advantages and drawbacks of various solutions.
My first idea was to install WordPress and start a blog straight on the web hosting service provided by my ISP. But it means I’ll have to administer it, which goes against my legendary lazyness. The site is also so sloooooooow that you would think it’s carving things in stone rather than magnetic devices. That and it seems to block SMTP, which makes contact rather difficult.
I then visited WordPress.com, which seems fast and full of options. I have only two remaining concerns. The first is that I’d need a couple of widgets (one for contacting me and one for listing posts by category). From your answers, I gather it won’t be possible (I have not been able to find a “contact” widget in the widget section of my dashboard).
The second issue is that I am not sure my content will be considered “suitable”. But I guess I’ll have to be patient regarding that last point and ask the team after September 19th. -
The contact form can only be done in a page, not in a widget, but you would put a link to that page in the sidebar.
As far as listing posts in a widget by category, again that is not something that is possible. We can use the archive shortcode in widgets, but it only works off dates and such, not categories. For this, you would have to do it manually in a text widget and then manually update it each time you made a new post in that category. Once you got caught up with the posts, adding one now and again would not be too much work. I know a lot of people that keep manual index pages that they organize by various section names that don’t correspond to categories and such.
There are a some themes here that have “archives” page templates. Take a look at this post by Panos: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/archives-and-links-templates/ .

You don’t need a widget for the contact info. You need a Contact Form in a separate page, OR you can put your email in a widget, but do take care to munge it so spammers won’t find it.
Contact form:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/
Munging email:
http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2007/10/18/eluding-email-address-spam-bots/
If you tell us what you want to do with your blog, we can probably give a pretty informed opinion of whether or not it would be allowed.

The contact form shortcode I linked to above can be used in a text widget if you want it available in the sidebar. Or you can create a “Contact Me” page and use it there. The choice is up to you.
-
In order to make a contact widget you can use this html tag in a text widget:
<a href="mailto:COMPLET EMAIL ADRESS HERE" target="_blank" title="TEXT TO SHOW WHEN MOUSE HOVER">TEXT TO SHOW HERE</a>
It’s also possible to show an image instead a text, etc.For listing posts by category you can use the appropriate widget or a custom menu.
Good luck either in .org or in .com.

Sorry about only half the Contact the Blog information. Use a Text Widget and then insert
[contact-form]and the short code calls up a contact form, if my memory is correct it can also be used on a Contact Page if you don’t want to put it on the sidebar.Content, you did not mention the type of content you were concerned about. Try looking at the Terms of Service and related links: http://en.support.wordpress.com/topic/tos-copyright/ I thought there was a bit more but seem to have misplaced the link.
Sort of my general observation is that much subject matter is allowed. Political hate speech is permitted, I have seen many blogs that were pure hate, and they just keep on hating our country and that seems just fine, doubt they would allow kiddy porn but many types of Mature or Adult subject seem to be OK.
Best bet is to ask the Staff or post the question and see what the Moderators and long time members have to say.
Yes, much easier being an Admin here than on a self hosted site (I have both and help some friends with their blogs here).

Hi!
I have wrote two post here, but they have been hidden.
What I wanted to contribute is the possibility of using this code (I’ll write it in other way, to see if now it can be shown)
TEXT OR IMAGETO SHOW HERE -

You are right. To contact author, you just need to use the links:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/contact-form-7-widget/
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/really-simple-captcha/ -
@helen, this is wordpress.COM, the free hosting service, we cannot use plugins here. WordPress.COM provides a contact form shortcode for use to use.
Thanks for trying to help, but you need to read this for the differences between blogs here and self-hosted blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.

@helen07 those will not work at WordPress.COM, Plug-in’s are not allowed here. They are Plug-in’s for use on a WordPress.ORG software based blog.

Thank you so much again. The contact form seems to work. As to the posts by category widget, I guess I can make something up, like gathering everything in a single post and creating a link to it in the sidebar. This is because I may try to start a feuilleton amongst other things and it would be easier to be able to reach any episode from one place.
Regarding the acceptability of the content, I don’t worry too much after reading your comments. It’s just that I like to write short stories on various topics and I don’t want to withdraw things like sex scenes or violent descriptions if I write them in a story. They are not the bulk of my stories, anyway.
It’s amazing and pleasant to see so much support popping up so fast. Did I thank you?
