How to Email Viewers/Followers
-
I have created a blog to update family and friends on some health issues we are currently dealing with – I think most people have merely signed up as Viewers and thus do not see, or are not notified of site postings/updates. I want to email all users, both viewers and followers, to ask that they follow us, and have not been able to find out how to send such an email. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy –
The folks following via their WordPress.com user account are going to see your new posts in their Reader.
You can also add a Follow Blog Widget for folks to follow along via their email accounts. They will receive an email with every published post.

Thanks so much for the response and great for people that are actively on WordPress.
The issue I am having, is for all the users that want to see the blog, who have already signed up, but are not regularly on the site, how do I contact/email all of them to let them know of these options?
Thanks again.

My suggestion is to add the Follow Blog Widget to your sidebar on the site. This is where folks will sign up to follow the blog via email. They’ll see the widget on your front page, and only need to enter their email address.
After they enter the email address they’ll receive an email notification every time you publish a new post on the blog.
On your stats page you’ll find a list of your WordPress.com followers and email followers. You’ll need to toggle between the two options. Here is the link: https://wordpress.com/stats/follows/wpcom/teamcarlbergblog.wordpress.com
You’ll see that you have 32 WordPress.com followers and 0 by email. -
I must be missing something, and new to WP so apologize.
I see I have 32 followers, and know I have about 100 viewers. I am trying to reach out to each of them via email, and let them know how to get more frequent updates, as you have suggested, if they so desire. How can I do that???
Thanks.

Good Morning –
No apologies needed! I’m happy to help :)
This stats guide outlines the different stats measurements and what they mean. A visitor is not the same as a follower.
I can visit your site, but do not need to be a follower on it. Does that make sense?
To increase the audience of your blog I’d suggest setting up Publicize to get your new posts out there on your other social media accounts like Twitter and Facebook.
There are some additional tips for increasing your blog traffic listed here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/
Anyone who follows your site via their WordPress.com account is going to see your new posts in their Reader.
You could write up a new post to notify folks that you’ve added the Follow Blog Widget so they can follow along via email now if they prefer and note that they do not need a WordPress.com account to do this.
