Here are instructions on how to embed images to your posts or pages: https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/adding-images-to-posts-or-pages/
You can embed animated gifs too by following the instructions in that above support guide. Gifs are images as well, just of different kind.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Hi Chaitanyamsv,
Thank you for your help.
I read that link in the forum already. When I click insert from URL the only option I am given is “Link text”. When I add the link, the only thing that appears on the post page is a hyperlink. No image, no gif, no formatting options are available.
On Giphy.com there are several different types of links available including html5. I tried to put these into the html of the post and none worked. They only displayed a hyperlink.
I don’t want to download animated gifs to my computer and put them in my media file.

I tried by using the bookmark tool “pressthis” and only a hyperlink shows on the post.
Also with the pressthis tool the gif showed in the title of the blogpost during the editing stage, then when I clicked preview it was only the hyperlink which showed.

Howdy –
Could you try this:
On giphy.com on the image you want to use, click on the advanced tab.
On the GIF DOWNLOAD section, copy the link in that box – it will end with .gif
In your WordPress post, click on “Add Media” and then on the left, “Insert from URL”
Paste in the .gif link above.
Click “Insert into Post”
Save your post. The finished code should look like this:

Bruceallen,
You are the jedi! It worked. I love animated gifs in my blogposts. After using blogger for 10 years, and migrating to wordpress, I’m happy to benefit from the kind advice you moderators offer.
Thank you so much.
