how to embed video

  I’m trying to embed a video into my post. I’ve never done this before. I followed the video instructions and when doing so, using the “add video” link at the top, pasting the URL and clicking “insert into post”, it sends me back to my post but with just a blank line – no url showing, like in the tutorial. Is there a way for me to embed it manually? Am I doing something wrong? Help!! Please & thank you :)
