How to enable likes on our About and Press page

  Hi there,

  We would like to enable likes on our ‘about’ page and ‘press’ page. We’ve seen it done before..how do we do this? Thanks in advance!

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  All WordPress blogs by default have comments enabled on every post and page in the blog.

  This page > Settings > Discussion
  Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/

  We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

  Note: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

  Do be aware the likes and shares are not pages view stats.

  Likes and shares are misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com blog who is logged into WordPress.com can “like” and “share” your posts in several locations such as in email and the Reader without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat.

  Consider this please: If you provide full posts in your feed then what incentive is there for any readers to click into the blog and create a page view stats?

  Also be aware that there are attention seeking like button spammers.

  Hi,

  No worries at all! This again was very again and actually more of what are wanting to find out. We read through your link about “likes and stats” but we still have some questions.

  1. How does using publicize differ from publishing on our multiple social networks one at a time? (Exception being speed)

  2. You mentioned something about compelling readers to click the post and register a page view…we believe we publish our full post in the reader. What will changing our RSS feeds do will our posts on the blog show up differently?

  I don’t use Publicize and I have very strong negative feelings against auto-posting the same titles and links across multiple social networks. The reason people auto-post is because they are lazy.

  To reduce you RSS Feed to summary > Settings > Reading
  For each article in a feed, show
  _Full text
  _Summary
  
  “save changes”

  Ok great because that is how we feel as well. However, we are still rather confused about the RSS feed to summary. I hope you don’t mind us asking more questions:

  1. How does this change how our actual post displays on our blog?
  2. Who will see this change? Is it just to our followers viewing from their Reader or the entire WP community?
  3. And will this change just show an excerpt of our post? With a picture?

  1. It doesn’t. It changes only what’s in the RSS feed and sent out in subscriptions.

  To split content in your posts so only an excerpt and a read more link appears on the front page of the blog, where all posts are showcased, you insert “the more tag”. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

  2. The full posts remains exactly where it is and the subscriptions sent out all have a continue reading link to the full post. Clicking the title permalink in the feed or email provides the full post.

  3. This is your feed for posts. http://ourmode.ca/feed/ If you include images or videos then they are in the feed. Not every subscriber’s email client will display images and videos that under their control not yours.

  It isn’t retroactive. Most of us set it summary and leave it.

  Ok. Just wondering as we made the change after publishing (we forgot) and it didn’t work. We will what happens the next time we post
