How to enable portfolio in Illustratr?

    It says the steps are:

“You can do this in two simple steps:

In your site’s dashboard, go to Settings → Writing → Your Custom Content Types and make sure the “Portfolio Projects” option is checked.”

When I go to Settings and Writing, there is no “Your Custom Content Types” option! Only Default Post Category, Default Post Format, and Press This. How do I enable Portfolio to make my template look like the example? Thanks.

    Portfolio
Illustratr takes advantage of the Portfolio feature on WordPress.com, offering unique layouts and organization for your portfolio projects.

With a dedicated Portfolio section in your dashboard, adding portfolio items is simple. Check out our guide for full details on how to set up your portfolio.

People love full-size images of your work, so make sure the images you include are at least 1100px wide. Illustratr displays these images at full width on larger screens.

Thanks, TimeThief, but if you read my post, you’ll see that I’ve already read that and the directions they’re giving me aren’t helpful. It tells me to select something that isn’t there when I follow directions. Instead of copy/pasting something I’ve already read, does anyone have any real help or an explanation of why the option I need isn’t listed in settings>writing?

It seems that you may not have not set up a Portfolio Page Template as is required by that theme.

I tagged this thread for Theme Staff support as the themes we have with hidden this and that, and the complex setup instructions are not ones I am familiar with, nor do I wish to use them on my blogs. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

General searches online say to download a plugin, but I shouldn’t have to download something extra to use what is advertised as a standard feature, should I? Plus, I don’t even have the option for plugins. This is incredible frustrating and not very user-friendly. Thank you for your help, TimeThief. It might be time to stop pulling my hair out over this and try another blog platform.

I’m so sorry for the trouble. You are right that it should be more user friendly. Some of the settings pages are in transition as we move to a newer dashboard that has a better infrastructure behind it that is being designed to work faster and better in the future.

Right now, to reach the “Portfolio Projects” option, you need to be looking at the Settings > Writing option in the WP Admin dashboard. Here is a direct link that should work for you for this case:

I will also update the support page to try to make it more clear.
