This warning started appearing when your WordPress.com site was encrypted. From that point forward, your URL started with https: rather than http: You can read more about why that encryption is beneficial here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

When you connect to your Dashboard over an HTTPS connection, we use an SSL certificate to encrypt your connection. SSL certificates need to be signed to a specific domain, and we can’t provide certificates for every mapped domain, so our certificate is signed for WordPress.com.

When you connect to your Dashboard via your own domain but your security software sees a certificate signed to http://wordpress.com/ it’s alerting you that WordPress.com may be intercepting your connection, which of course is perfectly fine. You may also see this warning if you attempt to reach your blog (not your Dashboard) using “https” instead of “http” in your blog URL.

    Thanks,
The issue is will readers get the same message. If yes, they may stay away from my site. Do I need to get a certificate from somewhere else?

I don’t see that message when I visit your site, so the good news is it isn’t happening for everyone.

While it’s not possible to attach a third party certificate to your site, we are working toward providing SSL certificates for sites with custom domains. We don’t have a timeline for when they will be available.
