How to exclude certain pages from being crawled by bots
-
Hello!
I’ve been searching for ages, but I cannot find a solution: I’d like to exclude my disclaimer page ( http://piranhaprinzessin.wordpress.com/impressum-und-disclaimer/) from being crawled by bots. That means, I don’t want this page to show up if anyone googles my name, for example. I tried writing my own robots.txt, but I don’t know where to save it in order to take effect. Also, I know almost nothing about programming, so it’s even more difficult.
I’d be very grateful if you could help me solve this problem.
Greetings
Nathalie

I’m afraid you are not going to be able to do that level of programming on the .com side of WordPress. If you look at the “View Source” function of your browser, all that code is generated internally by WordPress and is inaccessible to us as users.
I couldn’t find your disclaimer page. I don’t know exactly what you are trying to do or why but you might consider omitting the material from your web site altogether.
Cheers!

Is the disclaimer notice required FTC under their Guidelines for Bloggers? If so then why would you seek to hide it from Google and other search engines?

In Germany you’re obliged to have a disclaimer/ contact info if you’re using your blog to make money or if it is opinion-forming. Both of which mine isn’t, but I’d like to be on the safe side.
Anyone who wishes to contact me on assumed copyright infringements may do so, because he has access to the contact info/ disclaimer via my blog. But I don’t want (and don’t see any reason) to be found via Google. -
How about putting a contact form on the disclaimer page?
Then nothing including your name is on the page (unless you want your name on the page)

Good idea, but German law requires you to give your full name, address, telephone number and e-mail address easily reachable on your page (max. 2 clicks removed). I will have to see if I find another way, or just exclude Google etc. completely from indexing my page again.

How about a link to a password protected page, but just below the link is an easy password to be entered on the next page?

Excuse me for asking again but I don’t get it. Why bother with hiding it at all? I still haven’t heard a cogent case for doing so.
Mine is right there on my Copyright page for everyone in the cyber world to read. -
It’s his personal info he wants to keep off the web, home address etc. Your Copyright page is in the open but there is no home phone or address on it
