How to feature advertising from a local business on my site?
-
Hi guys,
I’ve recently been in discussion with a local sports store about advertising on my blog, which covers amateur soccer in my city.
How would I go about facilitating this? Would I need to subscribe to the Premium service in order to create a custom widget (into which I can paste HTML)?
Forgive my ignorance. I genuinely do not know where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Alan.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That is not allowed and there is upgrade that changes what I just typed.
The only advertising program at WordPress.com is called WordAds and it’s for blogs on their own domains.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
http://en.wordpress.com/apply-for-wordads/No blogger initiated advertising for driving traffic to third party sites is allowed. PPC is not allowed. Affiliate marketing banners and any and all advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com are not allowed.
Here’s what gets a blog suspended:

Note at WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
You may wish to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting and set up yo own wordpress.ORG software install.
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page -
Thanks for the response timethief.
So, as I understand it, to capitalise on this opportunity, I will need to export the contents of my site to a new WordPress.org domain, yes?
Is this difficult to do? I’m using the Splendio theme.
Thanks again,
Alan.

To move your content you need to create an XML export file of your content. It will not include the theme as they cannot be exported.

WordPress does allow sponsored posts as well as affiliate advertising links, so you could do it that way. It would be easier to do that than to set up and maintain a self-hosted website, unless you have the skills and time for it.
