How to feature blog posts.

My blog is currently an ever growing laundry list of posts. New and old readers alike don’t want to sift through all the articles to find what they like.
Is it possible to highlight perhaps the 5-6 newest posts with a featured picture at the top. Included would be a few sentences as teasers of what is to come.
The remaining posts can be listed at the bottom of the page or in the archives section.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You could use the Inuit Types theme that allows you to feature up to 4 posts at the top of the page, but it shows images only.
You could also use the Duster theme which has a “showcase” template that showcases a post at the top (make it a sticky) and then shows one post below that as a full post (you can use the read more tag to limit the text that shows on that page) and the lists titles of the next however many posts below that. There is also fadtastic which shows one post as full and then lists the other posts as titles below that.
