How to fill page entirely?
-
Hi,
I’m trying to figure out how to make my content fully reach the top and bottom of a page. This isn’t in reference to the banner header or footer, I understand that those are placed there because I’m using a free account. What I mean is that, even if your first and last blocks are full width images, there will still be white space above or below them. How do I push these images to the very top or bottom, filling the page?

Howdy –
I’ll be happy to take a closer look at this project with you. First, can you provide the site URL?
All of the options for customization with in the image block are outlined on this page: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/image-block/
Keep in mind, that your theme has to have a full width content option in order for this to be possible. Again, once we have the URL we can provide more details. Cheers!

I have no idea how to check anything with themes since they don’t list any actual info on their info pages. Full width content works in terms of their, well, width. A temporary solution that I don’t like can be seen here: https://teamfortresswave3.wordpress.com/greatescape/
I just did a gradient pattern through cover blocks to make the forced white at top and bottom blend in better. I definitely don’t want to be stuck to this, though.
As a side question, I’d like to be able to customize the page numbers at the bottom, but I can’t find anything on that either.
Worth noting again that I’m on a free account so I’m not sure if my options here are kneecapped by that.

Hi there,
I agree that being on the Free Plan is a limiting factor here since there are not many design options. If it’s in your budget I would recommend the Premium plan (or higher) which would give you access to our built-in design tools, and would also allow you to add CSS code for targeted changes and tweaks.
It’s worth noting that the Business and eCommerce plans include the same options would extend your choices even further by allowing you to upload any plugin or theme “designed for WordPress.”
As a side question, I’d like to be able to customize the page numbers at the bottom, but I can’t find anything on that either.
How so? Can you tell us more about what you have in mind here? You are referring to the pagination you are adding at the bottom of this page? https://teamfortresswave3.wordpress.com/greatescape/

For what it’s worth, I thought this was a pretty clever way to work around the limitations of the free plan!

That’s a shame. I get not giving CSS tools to free accounts but the block editor is disappointingly limited.
By editing the pagination I just mean being able to style it beyond just changing the font (for which I have to change the default font of the entire website). Like, I can’t center it, change the size, make it bold, nothing. At least as far as I can tell. And yes I do mean the pagination at the bottom.
The only way I can find to do something custom with that is to make separate pages and manually create links to them, as I’ve done with the numbers at the top of the page. But it’s so convenient to have all the pages in one edit window, so I don’t want to have to scrap that convenience.

Hi again,
I get not giving CSS tools to free accounts but the block editor is disappointingly limited.
The block editor is fairly new and it’s worth thinking of it a version 1, and not the final product. It’s a tool that continues to grow and evolve, and is capable of things now that it could not do at the time it was launched a little over a year ago.
But for now, yes, there are things it can’t quite do yet. On those occasions, CSS can be a big help, but it has not been an option for free sites.

Ah, I did not see that they were links until now, interesting! Pagination styling (using the page break block) is definitely something that is a built in style that can’t be easily adjusted except via CSS. It tends to adopt the global styles of the theme since it’s not something that most site owners will take the time to style themselves, but I see you are trying to push the design of your site to a higher degree.
If you could find a way to live with having these as separate pages, it will make it possible for you to have more freedom with the design. Given the focus you are putting on the look of your site, it could be a fair trade.
By the way, you can purchase CSS as an add-on, you do not need to commit to a plan: https://wordpress.com/add-ons/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
