how to fill whole space with imagery in Swell project page?

Could someone help me on this? I’d like to add imagery that fills the whole area in a project page with this template. I don’t mean to fill the whole screen – but this template obviously has a fixed area for your text and imagery to appear on all the pages. Yet in the project pages, when you add an image it doesn’t align left with the text above it – so the image looks like it could be wider if the styling allowed. See link above to see what I mean.
Basically, I’d like my project work to be as large as possible and not condensed as it is now.
Thanks,

Howdy Laura!
If I understand you correctly, you’re looking for the image to take up the whole area outlined in blue here:
Is that correct?

Hi Jeremey,
Correct!
I’d also like to know if its possible to split the area you’ve outlined in blue into 2 columns? So I could place my images on the left and text on the right. I used to use tables in the ‘old days’ but know this is out of date and unsure how to do with css – if at all with this template?
If you could help with at least the first dilemma, that would be great!

I wonder if you could give me the exact max width I could work to in this area too? Setting up my other portfolio pages and want to get it more accurate this time round.

Regarding the image taking up the full-width, it looks like it already is. However, the image has a black border itself, which makes it seem like it’s not full-width. You can see that here:
Since the black around the image matches the background, it appears as though it’s not full-width. Does that make sense? Sorry for not noticing that the first go around!

Definitely possible! We have a tutorial on doing that here:

You’ll want to follow “The CSS Way.” Can you give that a try?

The exact max width for the Portfolio page is 800px.

Hi again Jeremy,
I had a play with the 2 column thing and made it work – but think I’ll stick with one column for now. I have been working to the 800px you recommended for my image/content area. However, once in situ, all copy and imagery is squished to around 717px. I did a screengrab as my imagery was looking less than crisp and this is what it measures. Is this to do with padding or something? Can it be altered on this section or site-wise?
Another question – does your WP css guide cover how to implement a slideshow?

I’m looking at the image on this page:

and don’t see the squishing you reference. Could you tell me more about what you mean by that?Another question – does your WP css guide cover how to implement a slideshow?
You can do a lot with CSS, but it’s not possible to add an element to the site that doesn’t actually exist. So, I’m afraid this isn’t possible.

Simply put – I made my project page image width 800px in Photoshop but once in situ on the web page the same image measures 716px. Therefore, something is condensing the overall width by 84px. Hopefully that makes sense now!
Re the slideshow. Ok, its not created in css – its javascript. Which does very much exist! However, on trying to add javascript to the backend – it seems to chuck it out. Is this to do with me using Firefox, or is it that I just can’t add Javascript? Is there an alternative (in any coding language!) I could add?

I do see it now. The image I saw on the page before was 800px wide, but I see the current one is smaller. That having been said, the new image file is 716px wide. Did you make a change? Does the current image work for you or are you still looking for a different solution?

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply it wasn’t possible to add a slideshow at all, just that CSS wouldn’t do it. On a self-hosted WordPress site you could add your own JavaScript, but that’s not allowed on WordPress.com for security reasons. Hi again, think I had my screen zoomed out one level too far! All image sizing correct now.
Re the slideshow. Have discovered how to insert a gallery as a slideshow through somebody else’s guidance.
