Before you do anything else, go to https://wordpress.com/post with the same browser and see if it offers to restore a post. If a restore button appears, that means a local copy was saved in your browser and you may be able to recover it.
If a restore button does not appear when you start a new post, you can try checking for saved drafts at these locations:
https://wordpress.com/posts/drafts
https://wordpress.com/pages/draftsIf you are logged in as the same username you were logged in as when you first wrote the content using the same browser and still cannot find it at any of the links above, it’s possible the content was never saved for some reason. I’m so sorry if that happened! We are working on an update to prevent problems like that from happening in the future.

That fixed one of my issues – now if I can just find out how to make thumbnails again . . . . .

@designsimply, Yes, thanks for that – it does make the image smaller, but unfortunately isn’t a thumbnail since you can’t click it to make it bigger.
I even tried hitting the <publish> button in case it wouldn’t bring up the larger image until that point, but nope, nothing happens. -

That is different! I can help with that too.
To link an image to the original, click on the image after it is inserted and then click the link icon in the edit toolbar.

@designsimply – Good grief that’s clumsy!! It works, but what a lot of aggravation compared to former versions where the media library had a drop-down menu that you just clicked for a thumbnail and it linked automatically.
I sure do hope they change it back.
But thanks for the work-around anyway. Guess I’ll have to deal with that until it gets put right. -

@designsimply – I’m sure. People always want both choices. But this one would be so easy to satisfy both ways with just a <small> option and a <thumbnail> option which would be clickable in a drop down menu when you are inserting a photo. I’m completely puzzled as to why that was left out since it’s been in the program for all the time I’ve been using it and it seemed to work well.
Please, PLEASE bring that back? -
I will forward the suggestion for you! We’ll have to wait to see if it can be updated after that. I think they will make some modifications to the image insert process, but it will be on the next iteration.
