How to find my spam?
-
I can’t seem to find the comments that are marked as spam by Akismet. It only shows that Akismet had marked 6 spams but it doesn’t show what are they. Once, a friend’s comment was marked as spam which I could read but after that, it doesn’t show anymore. Can anyone help me with that. It sucks.

The Comments / Akismet tab of your dashboard shows the last 15 days of caught spam. It’s automatically deleted after 15 days to save space.
Also on the Settings / Discussion tab, there’s an option to discard spam on old posts. You can disable that if you like – when it’s enabled, spam on posts more than a month old isn’t shown on the Akismet tab.

I check my comments everyday thus it’ll never be more than 15 days. And the tab wasn’t enabled. That’s why I am confused because I basically didn’t touch anything about it and then it happened like this. :(

The 6 spams were probably junk discarded on old posts. See the setting I mentioned above.

The setting u mentioned, it’s never been checked or enabled. Now, there’s 8 spam instead of yesterday’s 6 but I still don’t see the spams. :( Can anyone help me with it or is there a bug or something? I’m really getting a bit desperate here as I really don’t want some comments to end up in spam and gone even when I hadn’t read them.
Thank you anyway.

There have actually been multiple threads on this issue. If you did a forum search, you’re likely to find many of them. The basic gist of it is that Akismet deletes spam that you have formerly confirmed as spam automatically, and will generally not recognise your comments as spam. There is nothing you can do to “read” this spam, and if you did, you’d most likely find that it was a waste of time.

I was just reading through all the threads on the forums and realised it had been a rather old issue and wordpress still hasn’t done anything about it. It’s just so frustrating.
Thanks anyway.

melisstarr,
Your blog has the “Don’t discard spam on old posts” setting disabled. In other words, it’s set to discard spam on old posts, like I suggested above. (I had the setting backwards – you need to check the box to not discard spam on old posts). Spam on old posts is discarded by default because there’s a lot of it, and it’s detected more accurately.
lizii,
“The basic gist of it is that Akismet deletes spam that you have formerly confirmed as spam automatically” – sorry but I don’t think that’s true. Where did you read that? The issue here (and most of the time) is the “spam on old posts” setting.
