How to Find User Name and Upload Custom Theme

I just registered for a domain name and paid for it through the wordpress site, but now i would like to use my ftp service to now access the site so that I can upload my custom theme that i purchased from an outside wordpress developer. I am unable to figure out what in the world my “username” is supposed to be, so that I can plug it into my ftp program and upload the custom theme. Can someone please let me know how to find out what it is?
It does not seem to be my customer number.
Also, how exactly do we upload our own custom themes to wordpress??

If you are talking about a blog hosted here at wordpress.COM and having your own domain name mapped to the blog here, they you are still hosted here at wordpress.COM and all of the same restrictions apply. We cannot add themes at wordpress.COM. We are limited to the themes found in the dashboard under appearance > themes. Themes found on the internet are for self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/Getting your own domain name and mapping it to a blog here does not magically remove all the restrictions.
If you want to use themes from outside of wordpress.COM, then you have to self-host your own blog using the software from wordpress.ORG. Figure about $10 to $25 per month all things considered.
With a self-hosted site, you will then be responsible for all upgrades, all installations, all backups and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, you have to figure it out and fix it.

Thank you, SP. I thought that purchasing it through WordPress would indeed resolve this, but at least I know now how to resolve the issue. Thank you very much for your help!

My website is http://www.chitlinsandcocoyam.com. I carried out every step listed on the above linked page to provide the nameservers (1&2) for Network Solutions. I waited a few hours, then checked my website. Now my homepage is NOT showing its “theme formatting” for some reason; and now, my /blog page is not showing up at all – instead displaying a “500 Internal Service Error”.
Meanwhile, WordPress keeps sending me email with the following text:
“We have received a request that the NAME SERVERS be changed for the following domain name(s): chitlinsandcocoyam.com”Can you PLEASE tell me why my website is not working (still) and what exactly I can do to fix it? I have never had such problems with any website in my life, until I purchased my domain name through WordPress. I’ve called my own hosting company 13 times, I’ve asked friends, and I’m still unsure of what exactly is preventing this site from working. Please help!
