How to fix this: my new blog address is redirecting to my old deleted blog.
-
I deleted my old wordpress blog and changed my username. It asked me if I wanted to create a new blog with the new username and I chose yes, and to have it replace my old blog. What has now happened is that when I go to the new address, it shows that the blog has been deleted. How can I get the new address to work now?
New blog url: sumiscope.wordpress.com
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

http://sumispoke.wordpress.com/ has not been deleted. There is a test post displayed dated 16 December (today). Are you referring to another new website?
-
yes, I’m referring to sumiscope.wordpress.com. If you go there, you will see that it shows up as deleted.
sumispoke is something I created after this entire fiasco. I had to start again because it looked like there was no other way. I changed my username again from sumiscope to sumispoke. It was all getting too confusing.
If the old blog was deleted permanently, I don’t know why WordPress even showed me the option to have the new one replace it. That option should not have been there at all.

Sorry. I hadn’t notice the different spelling: scope vs. spoke.
Let’s see if I’ve got this straight now:
- An unnamed older blog was deleted and you created a new one called sumiscope.wordpress.com.
- However, somehow sumiscope.wordpress.com was deleted, by mistake…because of a change of username?
- sumispoke.wordpress.com was created because sumiscope.wordpress.com had been inadvertently deleted.
I don’t know. I’ve never heard of an instance in which a website was deleted without the administrator passing through multiple notices that the action is final, irreversible, and that the URL can not be used again (non-recycled URLs).
I deleted my old wordpress blog and changed my username. It asked me if I wanted to create a new blog with the new username and I chose yes, and to have it replace my old blog.
This doesn’t seem right. If the older blog was deleted, and now you are changing a username, it doesn’t seem to make sense that an offer to replace a non-existent blog was made.
If the old blog was deleted permanently, I don’t know why WordPress even showed me the option to have the new one replace it.
I think perhaps there is a misunderstanding here of what the options were.
I’ll tag the thread for Staff attention. Perhaps they can sort things out better than I.

Thanks, musicdoc1. You’ve got it pretty much right, except that sumiscope.wordpress.com got assigned to my old deleted blog (suthewriter.wordpress.com). This is what happened (I tried it again and copied the wording)
(after I deleted suthewriter.wordpress.com and changed the username to sumiscope)
Your username will be changed to sumiscope.
Would you like a matching blog address too?Options:
1. Yes, create a new blog to match my new user name
2. Yes, change suthewriter.wordpress.com to match my new username and discard the old address.
3. Yes, change suthewriter.wordpress.com to match my new username and create an empty blog with the old address.
4. No, don’t create a matching blog address. This gave me the impression that suthewriter.wordpress.com wasn’t deleted yet, so I chose number 2. I suppose I should have gone for the first option. In any case, 2 and 3 should not have appeared at all. So this has resulted in the new url being assigned to the deleted blog.
I’ve rectified the issue by changing everything all over again (to sumispoke). But this should not have happened.
