How to forcefully unsubscribe an email subscriber

  • Unknown's avatar

We have an email subscriber who routinely posts comments or sends emails asking us to unsubscribe her, messages like “PLEASE UNSUBSCRIBE ME I BEG YOU 12TH REQUEST” etc. We’ve tried to explain over and over how she can do it herself, but she claims it’s not working. At this point, she is harassing us, and it’s kind of scary. Please, please, help us unsubscribe her from our blog so we don’t have to receive these angry emails and comments anymore!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is the username of this person who either cannot or will not click the “unsubscribe” link on the bottom of the emails she receives?

I’ll tag this thread for Staff. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Thanks so much for your help!

The user’s email is (email visible only to moderators and staff) – if could you please unsubscribe her from our blog email notifications, we’d really appreciate it.

    Hi there,

The subscriber is still subscribed to us – I just wanted to follow up on this request. Thanks so much!

Please note that the subscriber must do the unsubscribing. You cannot do this for them.

    Hi there,

Thanks, but I really do need WordPress to help here. As I explained, she is routinely sending emails and angry comments saying things like “PLEASE UNSUBSCRIBE ME I BEG YOU 12TH REQUEST” etc. and at this point it is harassment. We’re tried everything we can but right now it’s spam (and kind of scary!) and we need to take her off the blog. Can WordPress do anything to intervene and help us out somehow? If this continues we’ll be forced to shut down the entire blog – we can’t keep receiving these scary messages from her.

Why don’t you simply mark her emails as spam and then your email program will begin automatically sending her emails to the spam folder where you don’t have to read them?

It’s a sad, but true, fact that very, very dim people can also be very hostile. But that doesn’t mean you can’t protect yourself from them in this way.

Thanks. The thing is, she tries to comment on the blog posts too, so I have to keep “un-approving” her comments. And more than that, the angry messages are just creepy. The more she keeps receiving these emails, the more she’s going to keep sending these angry messages. The blog is personal she knows our names and who we are…so it gets a little scary. It’s clear she wants to never receive a blog update again, and I’d love if she never did – isn’t there something a WordPress administrator can do to intervene and help us all out?

    Thanks so much.

The sort of hole in the system would be to set the blog to “Private” then ask the staff to remove this only one specific person – then set it back to public – you need to keep a straight face but I have seen the staff remove some subscribers from a blog that was set to Private – the only trick would be to have only one person removed –
