  • Hi there. If you delete images from your library they’ll disappear from your posts as well, as your post only contains a link to the image where it’s hosted in the media library.

If you’ve run out of space, the simplest option is to buy a space upgrade. https://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/

The other option is to replace all images on your blog with lower-res images. Your blog is private, so I can’t check, but I’ve seen many blogger who upload images 4000 pixels wide and bigger, with file sizes of 2Mb and larger, burning through media storage in no time.

Meanwhile, most themes here don’t display images wider than 800 pixels (with 1200 pixels being the maximum), which gives you a file size closer to 200kb. If you optimise your images to the actual display size before uploading them you’ll find your storage space lasts much longer. https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/

It’s possible to replace existing images with optimised ones. Edit a post, click on an image and click the pencil icon to edit the image. Look for the Replace Image button. Click that, and upload the smaller image. Save the picture and update the post. Then go to the media library and delete the original image.

It’s incredibly hard work (I’m speaking from experience, though I caught on when my media library was still quite far from full), but the only way to free up space without buying an upgrade.
