How to get a copy of my wordpress files and database files of my website?

I am in the midst of trying to change to my wordpress.com website to a self-hosted one. I am using hostpapa and in the midst of transfering files over. But they asked me for a copy of my wordpress files and database files of my website in order to transfer the data over.

I tried using EXPORT from the dashboard but that is not the correct file.
Can you kindly advise where to get a copy of my wordpress files and database files?

    Thank you

  • You will need to explain to hostpapa that you are coming from WordPress.com and not from a self-hosted WordPress.org site. What they are asking for is what you would use if you were migrating from a WordPress.org site.

WordPress.com site content is migrated via the “export” process that you mention.

If you have not seen it, this guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’€™s right for you:

Thank you for the reply. Does it mean that I will first need to set up wordpress.org and transfer my wordpress.com to .org before I can transfer from .org to Hostpapa?

    Thank you.

  • No. WordPress.org is just a way to refer to self-hosted WordPress sites. WordPress.org itself is just a site where you can download the WordPress software, read support documents, and post in the support forum. It is not a webhost and does not host any WordPress sites.
