how to get bulk spam deleted….i know how to but it does not work and crashes

i need to delete nearly 12K spam notices i got in my feedback…but can not do it! Help

There seems to be a bug when you try and take out that many at one time
When viewing the spam – click on “Screen Options” at the top of the page and increase the number to be displayed to 50 or 100 and see if that helps by letting you delete with the bulk delete function a few more spam – I don’t know of any shortcut – maybe someone else does

Yeah…already tired that one and set it to 99 but it takes a long time to cycle plus i got over 11000 spam feedback Junk : O Thank you anyway.
It appears I will just leave it in the spam / junk file and forget it; although it is very annoying to see Viagra etc. blatantly dumped onto my work. -

I see you’ve already made a big dent in the spam build up. To get rid of the remaining feedback posts, you can click on the spam folder, and then click the “empty spam” link.
Let me know if you run into any more trouble with this!

thank you for the encouraging suggestion…yes i tried this but the process takes too long, no more like far too frustrating with a step buy step 98 feedback at a time….i got 28000 in the spam file; happy to report it is not with my inbox mail but a feed to feedback page viewed or screened by Akismet. It is definitely a spam virus which keyed a word search. Total spam 58000. And what remains in the feedback file is about 8000. It really does not effect the site / page but is annoying to see, if I tend to details.

If you could, yes please…and while looking into this, perhaps you can find out how all this came about. I realize it is extra work and that someone placed the virus using the search word in one of my title blogs. just not certain why though.

The spam is all gone.
The “why” question is a lot harder. Most websites get some form of spam everyday. Akismet is good at catching it which is why it ended up in your spam folder rather than your inbox–which is a very good thing.
Did your mountain of of spam come in all at once, or did it build up over time, and you just happened to notice it all at once?
It is definitely a spam virus which keyed a word search.
You mentioned this a couple of times. What leads you to believe this is the cause of the problem?

With regards to your question concerning thoughts of spam virus; as there were no red flags or problems with my inbox, I did not look into the spam folder, after briefly checking out the in’s & out’s of WordPress and the many options available. I am new to the web-site / page structure, it’s my fist attempt plus all the other obvious reasons for a newbie in the field…especially concerning my age and doing all this on my own.
So with this in mind, after finding the spam guard system [ Akismet ] I noticed 54000 viagra etc spam coming through feedback Only. Checking it out shows the key word in one of my blogs was School of Van Gogh all other similar blogs posted had no feedback at all. This started in Oct.. and noticed it at the end of Nov.

That sounds like just regular spam then. Nothing to worry about. If having spam in the spam folder bugs you, you might want to empty it out every week or so, otherwise, it’s totally fine to ignore it!

Ok…understood. It does bug me somewhat, although I understand the process, I rather try a preventive approach rather then the ostrich waltz.
And to help confirm the status; since changing the title of the said post, spam was nearly eliminated. .

Spam certainly is annoying, and we have a team of people who are always working to improve our spam prevention measures.
It’s also useful to know that Akismet learns what is spam and what’s not, based on how you treat your messages, so as long as everything that’s spam get put in the spam folder and then removed, it gets better and better at protecting your site.
Unfortunately, spammers also learn what works and what doesn’t, so as you continue to blog, you’ll notice that spam comes in waves.

Help! I have almost 300,000 spamsters in my site, causing it to crash. I manually took them out once, 5000 at a time, and it took forever. Since then I have put a capcha on the registration. I thought it was working but apparently not. Whats a girl to do??? Tomorrow was to be my big launch :(
