how to get [continue reading] on my pages

  My posts are 5-700 word posts that are excessively long to display on the main page. What i’d like to do is be able to have the first paragraph or so displayed on the main page and then at the end have a [continue reading] type link to link the reader to the full post on the page for the post. Does that make sense? Basically, in short, I don’t want the whole blog post to be readable from the home page because they’re all going to be pretty long and will be picture/video heavy in the future. I want to just have a preview on the main page and then they can click on the preview to view the rest.
