How to get images send with blog email notifications?

  • Unknown's avatar

I noticed that for ‘new post’ updates to users from the blog, the images are not send with the email. The emails say ‘images are not displayed in this email and must be viewed at the website’.
Is there some way to change this?
I’ve heard a rumor that you can’t change it if you have a private blog. However, that doesn’t make sense since the email includes all my text, which is also ‘private’ so why not provide the choice to send the full posting (I mean include the images) of the post when sending the email update?
In comparison, Blogger allows the images to be sent with its email updates to users so I’m hoping that WordPress.com does too as I that would sway which tool I use.
I hope you can help! Thank you

When we need Staff help with issues Volunteers cannot resolve like this one we type modlook into the sidebar tags on our forum threads. I did that for you.

How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then we subscribe to this thread so we are notified when they respond. Thanks for the info.

    Do they ever reply ?

  • I have subscribed to get email notifications from your site. Please reply on this thread the next time you make a post.

  • Hmmm, I did not get that email.

I wonder if the system hadn’t subscribed me in time to catch it. Perhaps publish another test in a few hours.

  • Ahhhhh, nevermind. I see the issue.

Your site is a private blog. That is why this is happening (and probably why I did not get the notification, even as staff, I would need to be added to the site).

You’ll have to choose between a private blog and having images in the email update, I’m afraid.

You aren’t listed as an email subscriber on it, so I doubt you’d get email anyways. Did change your setting to add email subscription?

I already mentioned it is a private blog.
    That was my question.
How do you get around that if you are saying the problem is private blogs won’t include the images in the email notifications, only the text.
There is no reason it should email the text but not the images. That doesn’t keep things any more “private” to just remove the picture.
There must be some way around this.
Blogger let’s you do it on a private blog surely wordpress let’s you somehow.

If you can’t do this basic thing on wordpress, and they force you to make your blog public then that’s pretty silly and limiting.

Do people get around it with a plugin?

  • Yes, you did mention that it was private. I just missed it the first time around.

But I’m afraid there is no way around it. It has to do with the way that the server serves the files. The system has to know that it is showing files to someone that it logged in and an invited member of the site. It cannot do that via email.

  • No, there is no way to do that with plugins on WordPress.com. While plugins are common on self hosted WordPress sites, due to security concerns, they are not available on WordPress.com. There is more info regarding WordPress.com and plugins here:

    Plugins

It is possible that there is a way to allow private sites to send out images with a self-hosted WordPress.com site. The folks at the WordPress.org forums may know that answer:

    http://wordpress.org/support/

That said, if this ends up being an important site feature for you, you may wish to move your site to Blogger.

Wow,that is silly. Seems like a cheap ploy to just force people to have public blogs. I don’t see skipping the photos and not the text as being any more private/secure.

Blogger let’s me, so guess have to use that.
    Thanks anyways.
