How to get information and data off a lost doamain.

We recently lost our domain and we were using wordpress as our CMS . Is there a way to get all of the lost data off our account with you guys. Like Like photos or pre-installed apps that were on the site? Can we transfer that information to a new domain? Or was all of that information stored on the domain itself and was deleted when the domain changed hands? We really do not know and would love some direction.

    Hi,

What is the URL or domain name of the site?

I have asked for a Staff member to help you. Please wait for them to reply.

  • Hi there,

    What is your domain?

WordPress and WordPress.com are not the same thing.

WordPress.com is a hosting provider for the open source WordPress software, and we only have access to data for sites hosted on our servers. Additionally, hosting with us is free and never expires, so if you were to let a domain with us expire, your site will simply revert to its free example.wordpress.com address, and your content would all still be accessible there.

But the account you’re using to post here has never owned any sites or domains with us, which tells me you were likely using the WordPress software at another host. In that case, we’ve never had any access to your data, and you’ll instead need to contact the hosting provider where you had your site hosted directly for help with this.

Or was all of that information stored on the domain itself and was deleted when the domain changed hands?

A domain is only a label, a human-readable alias for a bunch of code that tells browsers on which server on the web to find the actual site.

Your site’s data is stored on a server at a hosting provider, which in this case isn’t us.
