How to get month-to-month click data

Hi,
For clients, I need to have data on clicks for their ads for every month. These are custom linking out ads, not through Google or any other ad provider.The current WP stats tool only provides click data for 7, 30, 90 days, Quarter, Year, Total. At least as best as I can tell.
I realize I can collect click data at the end of any given month by getting the “30 day” data, but what if I forget? Also, what about months that have 28, 29, or 31 days?
Why does the Stats tool not give a summary breakdown of clicks for each month (Jan, Feb, etc) like it does for views? Am I missing something? This would be very useful.
Or is there a good plugin that could help me get this month-to-month click data?
Maybe Google Analytics would help (via tracking events), but I can’t seem to get that to work. Maybe I’m not configuring it right.
