How to get raised initial caps w/o css modifications
-
As in the title. I noticed that on some blogs authors seem to have an option of making an initial letter of a paragraph a bit larger. I understand it’s probably something that can be easily changed within CSS styles. I was however wondering if there’s any solution for a blog w/o CSS modification option? The blog theme I use is Fusion.

If you mean without the Custom Design upgrade, yes. If you mean without manually coding it in the HTML editor, no.
To make the letter larger:
<span style="font-size:150%;">F</span>irst letter etc etc.
Often it looks better if bold as well:
<span style="font-size:150%;font-weight:bold;">F</span>irst letter etc etc.
Can be in a different font too (one of the commonly used ones), for example:
<span style="font-size:150%;font-weight:bold;font-family:Georgia;">F</span>irst letter etc etc.
Of course you can change the percentage to adjust the size. -

Actually, I have one more question: what would be the parameter to even the raised caps with the rest of the line at the top, so that they do not stick out of the line above the paragraph?

Ah, that’s not raised caps, that drop caps. The easiest way for you would be this:
<span style="float:left;font-size:320%;margin-top:12px;margin-right:6px;">F</span>irst letter etc etc.
You can play with the numbers to adjust the size, the top distance and the space between the large letter and the rest; as before, you can add extra commands for bold or different font (or different color). -
Yet again, thank you very much. That is exactly what I meant (I know I said it the first time as well, but it’s definite now). Sorry for the initial confusion.
Best,
Rafal
