How to get "Read more…" to display?

    I noticed that the list of blog articles on the page shows the feature image and the excerpt but it shows absolutely nothing to hint the clueless user that there is more to read than the excerpt.

    I would expect the excerpt to end with “…” as well as a READ MORE button or link to make it user friendly.

    Hi,

    I suspect that you’ve added custom excerpts to your posts, and this is the reason for the results that you’re obtaining. If you haven’t added custom excerpts, then please let me know, and we’ll continue to look for a solution to the issue.

    On the Twenty Seventeen theme, if you select the option “Post excerpt” at Customize > Content Options > Blog Display, then excerpts will be automatically created and displayed on the blog and archive pages, as long as you don’t add custom excerpts to the posts, which would display instead (see details on custom excerpts below). Each automatically created excerpt will be 55 words long, and followed by “…” and a “Continue reading” link, UNLESS the content of the post is shorter than 55 words long, in which case the entire content of the post will display (on the blog and archives pages), and there will be no three-dot ellipsis or “Continue reading” link.

    Custom Excerpts
    When custom excerpts have been added to posts, as would appear to be the case on your site, then these are displayed instead of the automatically created excerpts. Custom excerpts are created as described in the Excerpts support page. There’s nothing wrong with using custom excerpts instead of the automatically created ones, but if you do so, then no ellipsis or “Continue reading” link will be automatically included. However, both may be added to the custom excerpt. The “Continued reading” (or “Read more,” if you prefer) link would need to be added using HTML code, as illustrated in the Styling an Excerpt section of the Excerpts support page.

    Another alternative is to use the More Block in selected posts, but More Blocks don’t work in conjunction with custom excerpts.
