how to get rid of about page or make it static

    Hi,
The dashboard tells me I have only one page but that “about” link links to what I’d consider a second page. the basic thing is that I only want a static informational page. I wouldn’t mind an about page too if I can’t get rid of it, but if not I need to make it static. because of the nature of what I’m doing with the site its really important that its a read only thing, no comments or anything like that.
I can’t seem to make it static because whenever I go to the “reading” settings, it asks which of the 2 pages I want to make static. I go with the front page but that seems to mean that they leave the about page non-static. I’d really rather just get rid of it since all the “about” type information is gonna be on the static front page. How do I delete the about page if it doesn’t saw i have two pages?

    Will

You can make your about page static so it is the first page people see when they enter your blog:

You *do* have two pages – the blog page (where all of your posts go) and the about page.

For no comments in general, you go to Settings>Discussion and uncheck the “Allow people to post comments on the article”. For no comments on a particular page only, you go to Manage>Page and again disable comments and pings. In Manage>Pages you can also delete the About page.

As for the static/non-static thing, you have confused things a little. Static refers to setting a page (ANY page you create) as a static front instead of a POSTS front (which is not static in the sense that newer posts displace previous ones).
