How to get rid of fake traffic!?!

  • Unknown's avatar

I do not use WordPress software and therefore cannot apply the Fake Traffic Buster plugin. I just have one of the free .com blogs and they no longer provide email support.

I have been having 300-500+ fake hits for the last two days. If it doesn’t really matter to my blog, I can get over not having accurate stats. But I have read that it may cause search engines to drop my blog, which I definitely don’t want!

    Any ideas? Thank you.

How do you know they are fake hits? What does it show under Referrers?

You can use copyscape.com if you suspect that your content is being ripped off.

I don’t know that anything is being ripped off. All I am seeing right now is crazy-high stats. I usually just get 30-50 hits per day; the last two days, I’ve gotten over 500. When I look at referrers, there are a total of about 40 referred from search engines and other websites. Search terms echo that figure at 36 for today. Yet my homepage has been viewed 575+ times – by whom? Yesterday, the jump in views was accompanied by a jump in spam messages, about 25, I think there were, although today there were only a few.

Maybe 450 people just decided they wanted to learn about chickens yesterday – if you are getting referrals from other web sites like forums you can get a spike that way

Not as likely as you might think. :) There were a few referrals from forums, but the referrals and search engine terms fell far short of the total view. It seems to have gone back down to normal today, so whatever it was, it may be gone.
