how to get rid of the cached blog picture icon?
-
Hi –
I have a site to promote my book: http://maxtomlinson.wordpress.com/ – when I first created the site, I uploaded a headshot of me as a placeholder. I have since replaced it with a picture of the book cover (as seen in the site icon). My problem is that friends on Facebook are including links to my wordpress site to promote the book and the old cached pic of me is showing up – not the picture of the book. If I create a link on FB or anywhere else, I get the correct picture (the book cover). Is this a FB caching issue or is there some mysterious place where I need to replace this image?
many thanks

Unfortunately we have no control over the images Facebook chooses to display and no control over how often they clear their images caches. The best information we have is found here:
Only the first five images uploaded to a post (direct inclusion/gallery/slideshow) will be sent to Facebook. The images size has to be at least 200 x 200 pixels.
To select which image will be used for things like Facebook Publicize, you can use a theme that supports featured images. If a featured image isn’t set or your theme doesn’t use featured images, then the code tries to pick the first image in the post or page. If no image is found, then the blavatar is used. http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#troubleshooting -
Ok, thanks timethief – is a blavatar the same as the Blog Picture / Icon? I can’t find it in my profiel but I suspect mine is the default (it’s the image displayed next to my member name, right?)
thanks again

An update for anyone with this problem:
Now my correct image in appearing on FB – as of 12/1/11 – my guess is that they refresh their cache on the first of the month or thereabouts.max
