How to get the authentic ip address from a comment

How can I get the real and proper ip address from somebody that has made a comment on my website on WordPress but is using a vpn

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

If they’re using a VPN service you cannot find their real IP. That’s the reason behind the use of a VPN. Even if you could somehow request that from the VPN provider, most of them don’t keep any logs to increase the anonymity of their users.

Hi thanks for the reply the person doing it on my website is using Avira browser that does not encrypt the information I heard that Avira has many leaks so somebody told me that there are chances to obtain the real ip address. Another issue is why WordPress does not use a system to identify if the comments are authentic everyone can use the email, name and surname of somebody else….

  • Hmm, on our servers we make people log in if they try to comment with an email address that belongs to another WordPress.com user.

Are you having this issue with a site on our servers?

The login is referred only to the owner of the web site if you look anyone can easily put a comment using the email of somebody else word.press will not check for the authenticity of that email word.press send an email to the author of the web site for moderation only as I said anyone can use the email of somebody else email sending comments

  • Can you send a link to the site you’re working on? My guess is you’re running your own WordPress.org installation rather than using WordPress.com services, and this discussion is likely better suited for https://wordpress.org/support

Absolutely is definitely WordPress.com if you click on my name you should be able to go through my site, I have to ahtecioate that it is related by an awful story of academic bullying as I have unfortunately been the victim, however, as I said previously whoever can post comments it can be done using any email it could be an existing email or even an email not active, try to comment using for hypothesis the following email that doesn’t exist (email visible only to moderators and staff) you will see the I will be receiving an email from the word.press asking me to moderate it

  • Yes, you’re right about the verification of an email address, but we cannot do that for non-WordPress.com users as they’re not subscribing to our service and therefore we don’t need to verify their email address.

The best way to avoid those comments is to enable the Comment must be manually approved option or even only allow to users with a WordPress.com account comment by enabling the Users must be registered and logged in to comment option.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
