How to get the identicon on the frontend to replace mystery man on the backend?

How do I change the mystery man icons on the backend to the identicons that are showing on the frontend? I am using Shaan theme.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The settings are found on this page Settings > Discussion
scroll down to the “Avatars” section and look for the “Default Avatar” section below it. -
Thank you. I have been there. The default avatar has always been set on identicon, but for no apparent reason last week the identicons changed to the mystery man. And I can’t figure out how to change it back.

That’s strange. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

When I go to the Gravatar site for your account, I just see a generic/blank Gravatar:
http://en.gravatar.com/rjdetigOnce you set your Gravatar, you should see it in your backend as well as on comments you post and in other places such as these forums.
You can upload a new Gravatar here:

Jackiedana,
Thank you for your response. I don’t believe I clearly explained the issue. I moderate comments on the backend of this website. Until a week ago all the commenters were shown with either their personal image that they uploaded for themselves or for those who don’t have a personal image their identicons were showing next to their screen name and address. The default avatar option has always been set to identicon. However, last week for no apparent reason, as no one changed the default avatar option, all the identicons changed to the mystery man even though the default avatar is still set at identicon. I am trying to figure out how to change it back so that commenters identicons show on the backend as they are showing on the frontend.
I hope this better explains the problem.
Thank you for your time. -
Ah, okay, I understand now. I’m not sure if or when the default avatar was changed, but I’ll look into it for you and see what I can find out.

I just got an update for you. The mystery man is now the default avatar for the Dashboard areas, regardless of what you set the comment default avatar to be. This change was made to help administrators identify spam.

jackiedana,
Ah, that explains why regardless of what default avatar setting I picked the mystery man always appeared.
That is too bad because having the identicons as default on the backend allowed me to identify commenters even when they changed their screen names – the identicon would remain the same.
Thank you for answering this for me.
I appreciate your time. -
