Hi @savvytalks,
Just checked your blog; it’s been barely three weeks since you started out, and still you seem to have got a fair share of user engagement. Congrats on that! :)
Making your blog popular is no easy task – it’s something that takes time; at least three to four months. Here are a few tips to go about the same:
- Write great content. There’s no substitute to the same. It may not be easy at first, but don’t lose hope. Put your best foot forward and write as many blog posts as you can. However, make sure you don’t compromise on quality for being a prolific blogger.
- If you’ve written great content, find a way to promote your blog. The easiest way would be through the social media. Facebook and Twitter helps. There’s no harm in messaging your blog link to a few friends (not spamming!) or re-posting blog posts in your Timelines.
- There are plenty of people blogging out there. Check out their blogs, read their posts and leave comments. Interactions will ensure more visits (and interactions) to your blog too. Networking within the blogging community helps. Besides, reading more blogs will broaden your horizon as well. :)
These should help you getting started.
Do remember, crafting a popular blog needs a lot of patience. So put your best foot forward and notice your blog growing in interactions as well as visitors.
Happy blogging!
– Hari.

To verify blog ownership of a WordPress.com hosted blog with the major search engines you must use this process > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don’t feel panicky about this please.WordPress.com automatically supplies sitemaps for our blogs to search engines – we do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/#xml-sitemaps-for-search-engines
Note that it can take weeks for search engines to index content in a new blog and/or to re-index content under a new URL. Note also that what attracts search engines is unique content in posts (not pages) that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet. Start now publishing original content posts frequently two or even three times weekly. For more information read > http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2010/01/21/omg-i-cant-find-my-blog-on-google
I recommend using the step by step tutorial linked to the bottom of your Admin page https://learn.wordpress.com
See also the “Video Quick Start” tutorial http://en.support.wordpress.com/video-quick-start/
The support documentation is all found at the Support link http://en.support.wordpress.com which is also linked to on the bottom of your Admin page.

The good news is that you do not need to purchase a single upgrade to have a successful blog.
Here are some tips.
If you want to increase traffic then don’t listen to anyone who professes there are passive ways of doing that. Increasing traffic to a blog is hard work. If you want your blog to rank well in search engine results and secure a traffic flow from the SERPs (search engine page results) then that begins with creating and publishing original content posts (not pages) ie. unique content that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet. See How to Identify Your Blog’s Target Audience http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2013/09/01/how-to-identify-your-blogs-target-audience/
It is commenting on other blogs with similar content that encourages traffic to flow to your own blog. If you are a WordPress.com blogger there are onsite tools you can use to find blogs by subject matter that are hosted on this multiuser blogging platform http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2014/01/20/finding-blogs-with-similar-content/ However, do NOT stop there because the classic error new bloggers tend to make here is focusing only on gaining traffic from this site alone.
These 5 videos introduce how Google discovers, crawls, indexes your site’s pages, and how Google displays them in search results. It also touches lightly upon challenges webmasters and search engines face, such as duplicate content http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2010/03/22/5google-webmasters-video-tutorials/
If you are using a WordPress.com theme good SEO is a given.
https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/04/11/seo-and-your-blog/
http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/seo-on-wordpress-com/However, going beyond the theme what the blogger has done within that structure is worth evaluating. Whether you write informative, persuasive or controversial content learning how search engines work, and how to apply basic SEO to you content will benefit your blog as it will increase traffic from targeted readers. http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2011/10/21/two-seo-videos-for-bloggers/

@arafatbs
Hi again,
I am multitasking from my business when I answer support questions here and I do not have time to be an elegant problem solver. That’s not to say that I don’t know how to problem solve. It is to say I have a distraction factor due to multitasking so I have answered only the most repetitive questions asked here for over 9 years, and I have hundreds of copy and paste answers to the most repetitive questions asked. -

:) I guess this thread OFFICIALLY proves that the WordPress.com forum is one of the best of its kind here in the interwebs.
One a serious note, @timethief, Thanks for being there for all of us! Your answers have been helping all of us here (myself included, since 2010); and are also the reason why many of us are here too; to give back what we got from here. :)
More power to the WordPress.com community!

Yes!
I’m humbled by your kind words to a degree, but my ego, which I am trying to slay wants me to copy them and frame them. lol :D
It’s such a pleasure serving as a Volunteer here. When I began there was only a single Support Staff member and no support docs at all. One day WordPress software will dominate the web and we will be celebrating that together for sure.
