how to get wordpress audio player to show up?

This is all I can fing on the audio player. Link to it how?

There are 3 ways to do this:

    1. Upload an mp3 file somewhere on the internet and link to it like this [audio ] with the address inside.
    Like this:
    [audio http://wpcom.files.wordpress.com/2007/01/mattmullenweg-interview.mp3%5D

which will produce the following player:

Link to it? You don’t link to it. You host the MP3 file somewhere, copy the URL of the file, and put it in using the [audio=Whatever] format.

  • Are you having problems using the audio player? If so, please provide a link to the post or page where you are attempting to use it.

    Please help.

I can not for the life of me get the flash player to work. My site is iamholy.wordpress.com Ive tried it all.

    Please look and see.

Always add the http bit up front so it’s clickable. Which post are we supposed to look at? A direct link to it is going to save everyone time.

The reason it is not working is that you are putting the wrong code in. It’s not [audio: it is [audio=

For some people it works without the equal sign, but it will NOT work with the colon there.

    1. why does the buffering process take a long time?
    2. how can i put the music/player on my sidebar?

  • Unknown's avatar

1 because of the site hosting the MP3, because of the length of the file, or because of the connection and computer speed of the person who clicked Play.
2 you can’t. It will not work in the sidebar as far as I know.

    hello

i signed up for the extra space so i could put mp3 etc in the blog posts … have uploaded the mp3 file i wanna use in this particular post … “an interview with sarah”

    http://tonybrace.wordpress.com/

and there is no sign of audio player … just the title of the mp3 is showing … there is no widget for audio player right? surely i don’t have to host the mp3 somewhere else now i have paid for 5GB of space?

    sorry for the bother :-)

  • Unknown's avatar

ok … of course as soon as i posted i sussed it out … click file url button … doh!

i have another question … probably only asking to get the thought processes going … how do i embed the audio player so it plays with in the blog frame and by opening another screen

  • Unknown's avatar

It only ever plays in the blog. It doesn’t open another screen. It’s not a link in and of itself.

  • Unknown's avatar

thanks … i should have written “NOT by opening another screen” … but originally it was opening a quicktime page … like a podcast … anyway … now the audio player appears on the blog page … says it is buffering … part of the line goes line green …but nowt happens

this is the code i have used … can anyone see sth wrong with this?

    [audio=http://tonybrace.wordpress.com/files/2008/08/sarah-blog-interview.mp3|bgcolor=#0000ff|leftbg=#ff0000|slider=#00ff00]

    cheers for your time

In a sidebar using box.net widget works fine. (Didn’t I just post this somewhere else?)

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve never used the colour thing. Try deleting that |bgcolor=#0000ff|leftbg=#ff0000|slider=#00ff00 and see if it works. If it does, then you know there’s an issue with the colour code.

  • Unknown's avatar

The code is ok. The problem is your file itself: I tried to download it and it won’t. Is it actually an mp3? How large?

  • Unknown's avatar

cheers man … but therein may lie the problem … i originally recorded the interview on a digital voice recorder which produces .WMA file types … i tried to import to iTunes on me Mac … no joy … tried various software to convert file type to mp3 (or other) … no real joy …so settled on playing the thing thru garageband … importing that to iTunes and changing the file type from .aif to mp3 … sound mad? annoyed the hell out of me … course i shoulda thought about it when i bought the voice recorder … the last one i had produced mp3 files … any tips on converting .WMA files to mp3? … or some other format which WORDPRESS platform supports? … the file itself is 144Mb (a bit large but not overly!) … 14 minutes of talking!! :-)

  • Unknown's avatar

What software did you try to do the conversion with? I have Plextor Manager Audio Capture 2000 and it works just fine. It was free, too.

  • Unknown's avatar

    – I think Audio Capture is only available for PCs.

    – I have a Mac, too. I’ve tried the Switch free converter and it works; you can download it from here:
    http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html

    – Don’t think about other formats: the wp audio player reads mp3s only.

    – 144Mb? That’s impossibly large for a mere 14 minutes (and possibly the reason for the endless buffering). Something must have gone wrong with the successive convertings – or did you choose an extremely high bit rate? If the second, it’s unnecessary, especially since your file is speech, not music. 128kbps is acceptable quality, and the file will only be about 15Mb.

Try TotalConverter 2.0? It’s freeware and downloadable at downloads.com or majorgeeks.com

I used to have it on my Hewlett-Packard and worked just fine.
