how to give credit to the author (“posted by..”)

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’ve just started a blog, and I’m gonna be posting with a few other people – it’s for university
    anyway, I’m using the theme “benevolence”, and it doesn’t seem as if it shows who wrote the post. so far it’s only been me, but it doesn’t say “posted by ophalm” anywhere.. is this just the theme, is it a setting? will it change when more than one person posts?

    thanks

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here – or link your nickname to your blog as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know. We usually need that to give a relevant answer.

    sorry – I assumed that since it asked for that when I made a post on this forum that it would be auto..

    Display of the Post author is theme specific.

    If the theme you want to use doesn’t display Post author, then include the “byline” in your post and use the “Author” widget in your theme’s sidebar.

    by include the “byline” in the post, do you mean simply add the test “written by blahblah” in the post? hmm I wanted to avoid that..

    how hard would it be to edit the theme to do that automatically I’m intending on having lots of different authors and want it to be auto

    Yes, that is what I meant.

    We can’t edit the underlying HTML here on WordPress.COM, and I’m not certain that you can edit the CSS to display the authors name even with the CSS upgrade.

    Your best bet is changing to a theme that displays the author. You can preview the themes in your Dashboard.

    @ophalm:

    1. No, filling-in the blog URL is only for detecting and auto-responding to wp.ORG visitors who often come here instead of their own forum. And it’s a very new feature, still under development.

    2. Your URL isn’t otagomassacre.wordpress.org, it’s http://otagomassacre.wordpress.com/ .

    3. I see you’ve added the Authors widget, but it only displays your nick: it can also display authors’ avatars and latest posts.
