How to globally prevent automatic hyperlinks for images
-
I searched and could not find an answer on WordPress.com support, so here is my situation. Whenever I add an image to a page, a hyperlink is automatically added. If the viewer clicks on the image, a browser tab opens with just the image. I would like to prevent the automatic generation of these hyperlinks for images.
I can remove the anchor tag manually, but there must be a setting to prevent this from happening going forward.
When I searched online, some people claimed this is a problem with old versions of WordPress. Furthermore, I am on a Personal plan, which does not entitle me to some features like CSS that are available with other upgraded plans.
Thanks!

On your blog posts, I see you are using image blocks. If you click on the image, in the image block icon var, click the Link icon and you can the click the X icon to remove the link. The block will remember your last setting generally so the next time you insert and image into the post, check and see via the link icon, if it is linked to the media file. If it is, click the X and then save changes, and from that point forward, it should not automatically add the link.

Thanks for that solution. It works really well.
Not sure if there are settings or preferences affecting this, but after I click the X to remove a link and then add a new image on the page, a link is added to the new image. However, it’s so easy to remove the link that I’m not going to worry about it.
Thanks again!
