How to Have Catergories as LINKS on the main page?

    I have several categories that pertain to different family members. How can I put them all on the main page, so if Jane wants to click on Bob & Betty’s category, she can?

    If you do not want to use the Categories widget in your sidebar then you can make this choice. You can make a page into a Site Index and not use the Categories widget. It’s a tedious process and it will not automatically update which is why most bloggers do not do this.     Alternatively, you can use the Category widget and simply create a Families Category as a parent Category (or Categories) and then create Sub-categories like children underneath the Categories for each individual by name or for each family by family name. In that case as posts are made you assign them to the appropriate Sub-category and as the Categories widget will be placed in the sidebar Sally can click on Mary and visa versa and see all the posts in that Category or Sub-Category.
    This is the preferred method of most bloggers because the updating will be automatic as each post is published rather than requiring you to manually type them in each time a post id published. It should be noted that until one post is assigned to any given Category or Sub-Category and published that Category or Sub-Category will not display in your sidebar.

    Here’s an example of how that would look after you placed the Categories widget in the sidebar and please note that the words between parentheses would not appear. They are simply there so I can explain the structure to you.

    Brown Family (parent Category)
    Fred (Sub- Category)
    Martha (Sub- Category)
    Sally (Sub- Category)
    Bobby (Sub- Category)

    White Family (parent Category)
    Ralph (Sub- Category)
    Mary (Sub- Category)
    Susan (Sub- Category)
    Jimmy (Sub- Category)

    This will help with the set up and configuring of widgets. The Categories widget allows you to configure it in a hierarchical (parent – child) structure if your so choose.
