How to have featured homepage slider posts also appear in top level navigation

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like the featured posts in my homepage slider (delicious magazine theme) to also appear in my top level navigation. So for example my slider pages are labelled “fussy eating workshop” “lunchbox inspiration workshop” and “special events and cooking demo’s” I would like to feature these pages in my top nav under the classroom section, however when I go to menu’s these featured pages aren’t showing in the menu so I can’t drag and drop them to appear in the navigation.

The only way I can make this happen at the moment is if I create a duplicate page of my featured page and insert this into the navigation however I’d prefer not to hack it as it will be an admin nightmare to always be amending two identical pages.

Can you help me to understand how to get around this?
    My webpage is http://www.tuck-shop.com.au

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Lynsey,

Sorry for the confusion! The troubles here are that “fussy eaters,” “lunchbox inspiration,” and “special events & cooking demos” are all posts, not pages. So they’re not showing up as options under “Pages” for the custom menu.

You’re definitely right to not make a duplicate page. Too much hassle.

The simplest way to add these specific posts to your navigation menu is through a Custom Link. Following the guide here:

    Menus

For the URL portion, use the URL for your post, like this one for “fussy eaters:”

    http://tuck-shop.com.au/2012/05/14/stage-2-expanding-the-repertoire/

Use “title” for how you want it to appear in your navigation menu, then click add to menu. You can use it the same way you’ve been using pages. :)

Let me know if you hit any more snags!

    Best,
