How to have featured posts aligned in grid format on homepage?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using the free versions of gateway. Yet, in the demo version of Gateway https://gatewaydemo.wordpress.com/ the “featured posts” are aligned horizontally or in a grid version on the homepage.

Is there a way to do this via the free version. Or do I need to upgrade to access a “grid” plugin?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

Yes, it can be easily done with the free version. Your site displays the blog or posts page on the front page, while the Gateway demo has a static front page with the homepage template assigned. See the Homepage Template section of the Gateway theme guide for information and instructions. Regarding setting a static front page, see the Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page) support page.

However, note that the section you are referring to the optional Feature Content section of a Homepage Template page. It may include posts or pages, but only three of them! If you intend to display a lot of posts in a grid pattern on the front page, then there are better options. The following themes may be more in line with what you envision.

Themes with a gallery style (grid-based or tiled) format on the posts page, where each image in the grid or in the tile rows link to a corresponding individual post, include:

Limited posts in grid-based or tiled format

    • Canard (up to five featured content posts displayed in mosaic tiles)

    Thanks for the response.

Yes, my front page has my blog posts because I tagged them with the “featured” post tag, so that the 3 posts will populate the front page.

Yet, for some reason the 3 posts are not aligned in the grid version?

    You’re welcome.

Yet, for some reason the 3 posts are not aligned in the grid version?

I’ve already explained why your front page behaves differently than that of the front page of the Gateway demo in my first post above, where I say (italics added for emphasis):

Your site displays the blog or posts page on the front page, while the Gateway demo has a static front page with the homepage template assigned. See the Homepage Template section of the Gateway theme guide for information and instructions. Regarding setting a static front page, see the Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page) support page.

The links are included to encourage you to visit those pages for relevant information, illustration, and instructions, and in the case of the demo, demonstration.

  • Hi morganbbeard!

I just took a look at your site and noticed the grid still isn’t up :)

The page musicdoc1 linked to walks through matching the demo layout – here are some highlights:

    1. First create a brand new page, and name it ‘Home’ for easy organization
    2. While creating the page, use the Page Attributes section on the left. Select the Homepage Template, and publish the page.
    3. Use the Featured Image section to choose the image you’d like to see on the top of the homepage. This can be the same as your current header, or a different image – totally up to you!
    4. Now we make that page your front page. Click on My Site > Customize (next to Themes) and use the Static Front Page section to set the new ‘Home’ page as your Front Page.

Try those steps, and let us know if/where you run into trouble!

    Hi Chad1008,

Thank you for your thoughtful response! This definitely helped! The home page is up and in grid format.

    Must appreciated!
