How to hide categories

I want to hide a category on my blog temporarily, and I cannot find the plugins menu or the theme editor option. Please help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com does not have a plugins menu:
Your category along with its posts are already published so there isn’t an easy way to “hide it”.
If its appearing in your navigation, try removing it through Appearance –> Menus.
If its appearing in a widget, try temporarily removing that category from any posts.

It is not appearing in the navigation.
It is listed under categories on the side bar widget menu. When I hid it from the widget list, it was still showing.
When I tried hiding the drop down menu, the whole category list vanished. Could you elaborate more on that, please?
