HOW TO HIDE CATEGORY ABOVE THE POSTS TITLE

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello!

I would like to hide category “BLOG” in all of my blog posts. For example, one of my post title: TOP 5: BEAUTY FINDS. Above it are visible categories: BLOG, BEAUTY, TOP 5!… Can you help me hide the “BLOG”, & instead the visible categories are “BEAUTY, TOP 5!” only?

    Kindly see here: https://xyzagerondio.com/2016/11/09/top-5-beauty-finds/

    Thanks so much :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

Why not delete the “Blog” category, and just assign a page as your blog page? The latter can be done at Customize > Static Front Page. Instructions on editing and deleting categories may be found in the Managing Categories in WP Admin section of the Categories support page.

    Explanation:

Unless you have some posts which are not in the “Blog” category, then there is no need to have such a category. The page assigned as the blog page will display all posts.

    Hi there,

The top bar, above the post title, will display all the categories that the post has been put in. It is not possible to hide one of these categories – I would suggest you to remove ‘Blog’ from the post’s category instead to hide/remove it completely.

You can keep the sub-category ‘Beauty’ as it is and uncheck the ‘Blog’ category. Here is a link to our support guide should you need some reference.

    @deskroid,

Sorry, I got confused, thinking she had a static front page. She obviously has the front page set as the posts page. So, just deleting the category or unchecking it from each post will be sufficient.

I noticed also that the “Home” menu item links to the “Blog” category page. In fact, this is what threw me off regarding the front page. This link will have to be edited if the “Blog” category is either deleted entirely, or unchecked from every post.

@musicdoc1 Yes, that is correct. The ‘Blog’ link in the menu will have to be removed.

@xyzagerondio Since you will be removing posts from the ‘Blog’ category, you will have to remove it from the Header Menu as well :)

It’s actually the “Home” menu item. She could link that to the posts page, instead of the “Blog” category page.

    Hello @deskroid @musicdoc1,

I’m really sorry for the confusion of my inquiry. I am new to this blogging stuff/s & still have many things to discover yet…

I did set my “latest posts” as my static front page. The “BLOG” category is my “HOME” page. Okay, I will delete the “blog” category now so that it will not appear to any of my posts, but my question is what will I set as my homepage? I wanted to set a category that all my post/s will appear.

Thanks for all your help! :)

    Thankfully,

    Xyza

    Xyza,

but my question is what will I set as my homepage?

The front page is set to display your latest posts. There’s no need to change that. There is no static homepage. The “Home” menu item should be linked to the site URL, https://xyzagerondio.com/. Either change the link URL of the present “Home” menu item if you can manage to*, or delete it and create a custom link using the Link type option at Menus > Add new item.

    * Editing a menu item link URL is easily done at the WP Admin Menus page, but I haven’t figured out how to do it at the My Sites Menus page.

    Hi Xyza,

If you want to display all your latest posts on the Frontpage, setting it to ‘Your latest posts’ should be enough. Doing this will make sure all your posts, irrespective of the category they are in, are displayed on the Frontpage.

I wanted to set a category that all my post/s will appear.

The posts page, also known as the blog page, displays all posts. It’s unnecessary to add a category.

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry, deskroid. I hadn’t updated and missed your latest post.

@deskroid @musicdoc1 oh! Thank you haha that’s so easy but it takes me forever to figure it out. I just edit the “HOME”, instead of “CATEGORY” I change it to “LINK” & enter https://xyzagerondio.com/ & voila! That’s all I wanted, easy breezy! Thank you so much you two & I’m really sorry for taking much of your time on my way too easy problem lol! XOXO :D

    Sincerely,

    Xyza :)
