How to host a development site?

I have my new website up and running – the site is pretty simple just to get something up.

I now want to build version 2, would appreciate advice how to do this. Someone suggested Frywheel – but I can’t export my Swell theme to this. I would like to still work with Swell theme but expand to include more pages, portfolio etc – and then nail the SEO when the v2 site live.

Someone else suggests buying another Business pack – that is more expense when I’ve already paid for biz pack for main site.

    Any advice appreciated.

Hi there, will both sites be hosted here on WordPressdotcom? If so, and you own the upgrade on the v1 site, it might be possible to transfer the business plan upgrade to the v2 site.

Just to confirm that, I’ve asked Staff to reply to this thread.

Staff, I’ve also added the CACHING ISSUE tag to this thread as “The blog I need help with” was not visible prior to replying to @andrewdunnningapd Thanks.

Hi. Yes both sites will be on wordpressdotcom. I need to work to develop v2 as I’m new to creating websites (although I’ve been blogging us wordpress for years).

So I want to create v2 under development for a couple of weeks – then once happy, take v2 live and retire v1. V2 will point to londoncontemporary.com ultimately

thanks for your help. I understand I could buy another business plan but as a SME there is only so much money around ……

  • Hi there,

I see that you’re not using any plugins on your site, therefore you could create a free site with a .wordpress.com subdomain and start developing the v2 of your site there. When it’s ready you can switch both your Business plan and your domain to that site.
