  how to I add a featured image to my blog page on my site and change the layout? I’ve been trying to add a featured image and an introductory message but it’s not working.

The large Featured Image is also used for a Sticky Post https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts on your blog’s homepage. It works best at 2000px wide and 1500px high.
