How to I apply categories to my pages?

    How to I apply categories to my pages? I am trying to build a site map and I created categories around the content of my pages but I cannot add those categories to the pages via the editor?! I can associate them with the blog posts just fine but not to the rest of the site? Am I missing something?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Ryan,

    If you are attempting to add pages to categories, that cannot be done. Only posts can be assigned to different categories.

    Also, I’m not sure if you’re aware, but WordPress.com automatically creates an XML Sitemap of your site for Search Engines. I didn’t want you doubling up on work if that’s what you’re trying to create:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/

    Thank you for the insights! I am trying to add a site map to Google website management and the lit the I could find recommended creating a page with the categories listed in the categories widget. The problem is that the majority of my content is located within the pages rather than blog posts. Is there a way to add the XML site map generated in WordPress to Google Website Management that I have missed? Rather new to all of this and appreciate any insights that you may have.

    I see! You’re setting yourself up with Google’s Webmaster Tools.

    Things might be simpler than you think :)

    Have you seen this document about setting up webmaster tools for WordPress.com sites?

    That document should walk you through the process.

    While on a self-hosted site, you do have to do all the site mapping/submitting manually or with plugins, if you’re hosting here at WordPress.com, we do that for you.

    Not only do we create a sitemap that we submit for you, but every time you make updates to your site, we automatically send notification to Google.
