How to i make the main blog area wide?

hi friends,
im new to wordpress, i had a account with blogger but i had to quit becuase if i use any toher theme than the white back ground it gives me less space for the main blog area (the middle part of the blog) so i cannot past programming code (as im a software developer) so when post some in blogger it looks horrible.
and i see teh same thing in wordpress i use the theme that i get by defualt in wordpress. but i need to wide the main bloger area of my pages to the max as possile so viewer can see more of the bloggin area that all the empty space s in the left side and right hand side… how do i get more blog space in my bloggin page?thanks

You might want to check out the iNove theme, which gives you the ability to hide the sidebar, making the posting area wider.
Other than that, your choice would be to buy the CSS upgrade and then widen it yourself.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/If you are familiar with CSS and HTML, then what you might want to do is start with the Sandbox theme, which is virtually wide open.
Do note that here at wordpress.COM, you cannot edit the underlying theme files since this is a multi-user platform and we all share the same files.

Check out the “sourcecode” shortcode which will make any code you post a bit easier on the eye. It also allows for a scrolling area and copy and view links.
