Here’s my advice follow the step by step tutorial prepared by Staff http://learn.wordpress.com

You can create a custom menu and add static Pages (you create) and dynamic Categories pages and dynamic Tags pages (automatically generated by the software and that automatically update) when you publish posts into the custom menu.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages-to-your-menu -
Just to be clear. A custom menu means that the default menu that the theme has set-will be replaced by my configured ‘create menu’.
-
Yes, if you create and activate a custom top menu it will replace the default menu. There’s nothing disappointing about that, because a custom menu can include tabbed links to whatever you like. Study this please:

Like is said above:
You are in charge of what appears in a custom menu. You choose the order in which to display any and/or all the foregoing in your custom menu. You choose which to display and which to hide. To remove any custom menu items you do not wish to be included in your custom menu see > Appearance > Menus

the ‘custom menu’ support doc was really confusing. the ‘wordpress tips’ doc was better, along with everyone’s comments. i get it, now. thanks!

Question, I’m just about finished with my site. Is it best to purchase the domain name through wordpress or through GoDaddy or some other resource? If you can, briefly, explain the advantages or disadvantages.

Lastly, the only thing I’m hung up on are creating drop down menus under the menu headers. Seems to be the last thing obstacle. Any advice appreciated. The docs aren’t explaining it well. THANK YOU!!!!

1. Volunteers don’t make such recommendations. Only piad consultants do and that doesn’t happen on support forums. :)
2. Creating dropdowns in a custom menu is a matter of dragging and dropping menu items and indenting them. See the image here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-of-menu-items-and-creating-sub-menus -
1) I use WordPress.com as it’s cheaper and I always know I can whine in the forums or email and get my problems solved.
-
Thanks!
On the second issue, I don’t understand where I’m creating the menu to ‘drag and drop’-from.
-
@raincoaster
Me too. lol :DOn the second issue, I don’t understand where I’m creating the menu to ‘drag and drop’-from.
All menus are created here > Appearance > Themes
To the custom menu we create we add items by dropping and dragging them into place. If we include Pages then we drop and rag the sub-pages below the Parent page and so on. See > Here’s a link to a custom menu walkthrough > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/11/wordpress-com-custom-menu-walk-through/SIGH ... what are you creating drop downs from and to?
If you have no content and have yet to assign any Categories to posts then trying to set up dropdowns to non-existent sub-Categories isn’t possible.
SIGH ... The frustration I have is that when a blog is private (rather than than be accessible to view with search engine indexing blocked – option 2 here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/) is that threads like this go on and on and on. When we Volunteers actually can see what the blogger is doing we can give pertinent answers in double quick time.
-
sorry to make you ‘sigh’. perhaps you should consider volunteering somewhere else. if you need my site to be public-SIMPLY ask. you have the expertise-NOT ME. if you know that it goes on and on-use your understanding to nip it in the bud.
-
definitely will be registering an official complaint against you ‘time thief’. that behavior is not necessary in an, otherwise, supportive forum. BTW, ‘time thief’, your contributions have been confusing, lengthy and not helpful.

and, insulted me. insults are not acceptable. so, no, i’m not “chilling”. i’m letting someone know when they are offensive. i think that’s fair.
