    How do I import a wonrdpress site which is being hosted on a different server

    Hi surgease,

    If you are using WordPress.org software with another host, the content from that site can be imported to WordPress.com with these steps:

    I noticed you haven’t create a site on WordPress.com yet — what is the address of the site you want to import to?

    Thanks for the response.
    I have not worked with wordpress before or moved a site from one host to another so please bear with me.

    This is my situation:

    I am the owner of the domain http://www.surgease.com (administered by 123) that has an associated wordpress site developed by a third party. This individual also currently hosts it. I am in the process of moving the host server to BlueHost. I know that I have to change the DNS settings at 123 to match the BlueHosts IP.

    I have not yet copied the existing site over to BlueHost but via the BlueHost admin, I can log in to the surgease wordpress site and view the main page. The other pages cannot be found when I try to edit them or click on the links on the main page – but the main page is present and can be edited – not sure why?

    I do have a backup of the existing site which was created via UpdraftPlus. I have also uploaded it to my surgease site in BlueHost but have not yet restored it.

    This is my plan:
    Change the DNS settings at 123.
    Change the url for the site at BlueHost (it is currently a temp domain)
    Restore the surgease site via UpdraftPlus

    Is this the correct way to move my site to the new host so it will work and I can then edit/add to it as normal?
