How to import from my current wordpress.com site to a new wordpress.com site?
-
I have quite a large and complex site at inlanding.wordpress.com using a customised Gridspace theme.
I want to move the site to an address that better reflects the sites content, one I’ve called slowboatapproach.wordpress.com
However I’m anxious that I’ll mess up and lose content/functionality and also may have to pay for Gridspace again.
How should I go about moving the site to the new address? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can transfer content using the instructions here:

You can transfer upgrades using these instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#transferring-upgrades
Before transferring upgrades, I would encourage you to copy any custom CSS that you have and paste somewhere to assist in setting your new site up again.

Thanks for the instructions… much appreciated :)
Next comes a bit of a ‘chicken-and-egg’ question, which comes first in the transfer process, moving the data across or the upgrades? Or does doing it all pretty much at the same time synchronise things?
Also any tips on how to ensure that people switch from the old blog address to the new one… is there a way of creating something akin to a forwarding address?

I would export/import content and then upgrades. I suppose there’s no real reason for it. I just think that’s the most logical way.
You can redirect from old to new using this upgrade if you wish:
