How to import from wordpress.org?
-
Hi, I searched for import on the forums but didn’t see an answer to my question. I have the software from wordpress.org installed on a server I have access to, and I’ve been blogging that way for over a year. However, lately the spam comments have gotten too much for me to deal with, so I want to convert to wordpress.com (where there is a spam block feature?). I can backup my blog data using myphpadmin, but it doesn’t appear to be one of the formats you can import with in wordpress. Is there a way to do this? Maybe someone has a converter that can convert into wordpress files?

What specific version is your current blog? You can check this at the bottom of any wp-admin page. Please be specific as theres a couple different answer depending on what you have currently.
If all you want is a spam blog feature, I’d grab a copy of Akismet. You’ll find your API key at Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile -> Near the top of the page here at wp.com. There are others as well.
Hope this helps,

Hi, I downloaded Akismet but found out that it only works with wordpress 2.0+ (I had 1.5.x). So I downloaded the latest wordpress, only to find that the mysql on my server wasn’t good enough for it. In the end I got things to work with version 2.0.9 (I think 2.0+ comes with Akismet). So we’ll see how that works…
Is Akismet the same spam filter that wordpress.com uses? If so then there won’t be any reason for me to change. Is it any good?
Thanks for your help so far!
